Encourage Applicant to Choose Your Competitor

The hiring process is already an expensive task for every company and it has to pay off with a lot of applicants who are interested to become a part of your organization.  However, if your hiring staff puts these potential employees off, do not be surprised if they turn down your invitation for an interview and end up becoming the best workers in your competing company.  Here are some ways to discourage your applicants from working in your company.

Put them on terminal hold

When they call to make an appointment, hold their call for more than 30 seconds.  There is no better way of saying "We do not have time for you" than leaving them hanging on the phone.  You can also try leaving the phone ringing whenever they call.

Schedule an appointment two weeks from today

Some organizations think that if the applicants are so enthusiastic about working in their company, they can wait for an appointment for as long as possible.  But remember, with so many companies hiring, you might end up with an applicant who waited for two weeks for an appointment because no one else is interested enough to hire him.

Have them wait at the front desk

Instruct your receptionist to give new applicants some application forms to sign, and then have them wait for more than 15 minutes before being interviewed.  You are too busy that you do not have time for new applicants.  Besides, they do not have a short amount of patience, do they?

Talk negative about a co-worker

Have your applicant get introduced to his potential workmates by chatting with fellow employees on how one co-worker likes to sleep around with different men, or how your officemate’s buttons are popping out because he is too fat.  Let the new applicants know that they will be treated with that same cutthroat, backstabbing loving once they become part of the team.
